Gingivitis – How To Cure It
If you have or suspect that you have gingivitis, there are several things you can do to cure this condition, and prevent it from getting worse.
Here are a few gingivitis cure tips that you’ll want to use every day to make sure that your oral–and overall–health is improved.
One of the first things you’ll want to do is purchase the right toothbrush.
Many people have toothbrushes that are too harsh or brittle, and this can cause the gums to bleed.
The wrong toothbrush may not clean all the debris and bacteria from the teeth either, and this is one of the main reasons that gingivitis occurs, and goes untreated for so long.
So, be sure to buy a soft brush and change it every three months or so.
Even if the bristles aren’t beginning to bend outwards yet, replacing your brush every three months not only increases the performance of the brush, but also reduces the bacteria entering your mouth from the brush itself.
This is a simple gingivitis cure that won’t cost you much, but you’ll be surprised at the difference this will make in your oral health.
You’ll also need to know how to brush your teeth correctly; this is a gingivitis cure that most people overlook.
To clean your teeth and gums, you should use short, back and forth motions. Follow this with up and down strokes, and use vertical motion to clean the back of your teeth and gums that may be hard to reach.
Flossing is another major part of the gingivitis cure; you’ll need to floss each time you brush to get rid of the bacteria that you can’t reach with brushing alone.
Fully fourty percent of the tooth surfaces are in-between the teeth – where toothbrush bristles can’t reach – 40%!
So, clearly, flossing is the ONLY way to fully clean the teeth and gums.
Not flossing equates to neglecting nearly half of your overall tooth surfaces – a recipe for disaster.
Of course, you’ll probably also need to find a good mouthwash as part of your gingivitis cure. You can talk to your dentist about a mouthwash they recommend. Or you can simply buy one that is alcohol-free and use it after each brushing/flossing session.
If you want to make your own mouthwash, you can use citric acid, lemon juice, tea tree oil, or peppermint oil mixed with water after brushing for a clean feeling that will last all day. Add some hydrogen peroxide for an antibacterial boost. You may also want to take some of your mouthwash with you to work or school so that you can rinse with it after every meal.
Making a few changes to your diet can contribute to your gingivitis cure as well.
You should make sure that you’re eating plenty of fresh, raw fruits and vegetables for optimum oral health, and eating nuts and berries as a snack a few times a week will help to make your breath fresher and your teeth whiter.
When all is said and done, curing gingivitis is all about good oral hygiene (barring any underlying disease conditions).
The less plaque that is allowed to accumulate, the less chance for gingivitis to exist.
So, be good to your teeth and gums and they will be good to you.
Floss only the teeth you want to keep and remember that plaque is the enemy – and the cause of gingivitis.
