If you’re an executive who couldn’t spend a whole day in the dentist’s office for a complex dental procedure, you’re not alone in your dilemma. Getting your teeth fixed is as important as that next business conference. Dealing with tooth problems during a business meeting is the last thing you want to be bothered with. Complex dental procedures especially those requiring more than two visits can be finished in one appointment. It is possible with today’s dental art technology. Sleep dentistry gives you a better option to have an extended dental treatment done in half or whole day.

What is sleep dentistry?

Sleep dentistry is dental procedure that will put the patient in complete sleep by administering general anesthesia or intravenous (IV) sedation. The patient will not feel any pain, unaware of what’s happening around him and will not remember the procedure. Dentistry utilizing anesthesia or sedation is a safe way to reduce the fatigue of extended dental treatment requiring long visits.

There are two ways of administering sleep dentistry: intravenous (IV) sedation and general anesthesia. With IV sedation, the anesthesiologist administers varying amounts of sedative medication through an intravenous line. IV is fast acting and can be controlled by increasing or decreasing the medication depending on the patient’s needs. General anesthesia, on the other hand, produces a state of complete sleep different from one would normally experience because it blocks all memories and inhibit normal body reflexes to pain making the dental procedure easier to perform. The effects last for several hours after the treatment is complete. The patient will remain in the clinic until he is completely awake.

So, the next time you find yourself needing a complex dental procedure in the middle of a hectic schedule at work, you can choose to have a sleep dentistry procedure to complete the treatment with fewer visits to the dentist’s office.

Women have a lot to worry about when they are pregnant. Unfortunately, studies show that they now have another worry: the potential link between low birth weight babies and gum disease. This problem is distressingly more prevalent than a lot of soon-to-be mothers may even realize. For your health and the health of your unborn child, you need to familiarize yourself with gum disease, its risks, and how to prevent them.

In the United States alone, as many as 10 percent of all babies are born prematurely. Naturally, premature babies tend to have a lower success rate. It is more difficult for these babies to thrive and survive. Their development may be at risk as well. Out of all the infant deaths in this country, almost sixty percent of them are due to the babies being premature with low birth weight.

The use of oral irrigators might help to improve dental health, especially the health of the gum tissue.  Certain brands may be better than others in this regard.

Such high numbers of afflicted mothers and bablies demanded research. Tons of studies are still being done. Some of the results already stumbled upon an astonishing, downright chilling fact. There is a surprisingly strong link between mothers who have gum disease during their pregnancy. The study done suggests that these mothers were an astounding 7 times more apt to give birth to babies with low weights at birth.

A special mouthwash referred to as therabreath contains oxygenated compounds that may also be helpful in fighting or preventing gum disease. This mouthwash is also pH balanced, possibly providing further protection to your periodontal health. In any case you should make an attempt to end gum disease and prevent it from coming back again.

Thus, a little more than eighteen percent of all babies born prematurely can be attributed to maternal gum disease. If the results are correct, that means that gum diseases causes low birth weight more than drinking or smoking during pregnancy.

A primary reason for these disturbing findings is due to the fact that, in general, if a mother has an infection during her pregnancy, her baby is more at risk for being born prematurely. This all begs the question, how can expectant mothers stop this from happening?

For starters, you have to visit your dentist on a consistent basis. You especially need to go if you experience any of the telltale signs of gum diseases, such as bleeding, sore, or red gums.

Who doesnt want their teeth to be sparkling when they flash their 30 watt smile! That said, not all of us are fortunate enough in having white teeth. The discoloration occurs due to our own faults. Fortunately,it is possible to whiten your teeth and you can do so by using low concentration gels.

That being said, not many people actually favor this product. Talk of gels, and people immediately compare the efficiency of this gel with the high concentration one. The time of use of this gel is also relatively long. You may have to use it for 1 or 2 weeks a month and keep it on for a couple of hours.

For teeth that are heavily discolored or teeth that have undergone a severe decay, low concentration gels may not work at all as teeth whitening agents. You can use this product at home however, the results are not guaranteed.

However this doesnt mean that low concentration gels have only negative features! The presence of low concentration of hydrogen peroxide in these gels makes these teeth whitening agents extremely friendly for the tooth. They don’t cause any injury to the teeth or the soft tissues, making them ideal teeth whitening agents to be used by people. In cases where the discoloration is not too much, you can use low concentration gels instead of the high concentration ones to help you get your teeth back to shining white color!

It is important consider the pros and cons of each type of teeth whitener before going for it.  It is also a good idea to talk to the dentist about the different products that are available on the market today to make sure that they are safe to use on the type of teeth that the person has.  If the person has some caps or other synthetic materials on their teeth, it will be important to see what the ramifications will be of using a teeth whitening product on those areas of their teeth.  There are some people who will do teeth whitening and will find that the synthetic fillers and other cap material does not match the new color of their teeth, and thus have to have those materials replaced.  This adds to the cost of a purely cosmetic process that is not necessary to the health of the person’s teeth.

New Methods Of Laser teeth whitening

One of the new methods that is on the market today is laser teeth whitening.  This can be a perfect method for those that either do not have the discipline to whiten their teeth each day until they are the color desired or they do not have the time to do that each day.  The laser teeth whitening method only takes one dentist visit to obtain a beautiful white smile since the laser helps to intensify the bleaching effect on the teeth. The procedure of laser teeth whitening is performed by the dentist. There are bleaching crystals in a teeth bleaching gel which is applied to the teeth.  The laser is applied during the teeth whitening process to activate the crystals and to help them to penetrate the enamel on the teeth so that they become whiter more quickly.

One of the down sides to the laser teeth whitening is the effects are going to be like night and day and others will immediately know that a procedure has been done to obtain the white teeth.  Although some individuals will not mind if others are aware that they use bleach on their teeth, there are other people that will not want others to know it is not the natural look of their teeth.  Another down side to the laser teeth whitening is that the cost is the most expensive on the market today.  The cost of the procedure is usually over one thousand dollars, depending on the area where the consumer lives and the particular dentist office.  This is very expensive compared to the several hundred dollars for the whitening trays and the twenty dollars a box for the over the counter whiteners.
